Your Mindset Is Holding You Back From Abundance
The Weary Heart #27
Most people don’t realise this, but abundance is not a financial condition.
It is a mental one.
You can have little and still feel abundant.
You can have plenty and still feel poor.
Because abundance is not about how much you have.
It’s about how deeply you trust that what you have is enough, and that more will come when you are ready.
But if you constantly live from fear, scarcity, and comparison, then no amount of money, success, or love will ever feel like it’s enough.
You’ll keep chasing, collecting, consuming, yet never truly arriving.
The truth is simple: your mindset is holding you back from abundance.
The Scarcity Trap
Scarcity is not just about lacking resources.
It’s a way of seeing the world; believing that opportunities are limited, that success is reserved for the lucky few, and that generosity will make you lose in the long run.
When you think like that, you shrink your world.
You hesitate to share ideas.
You avoid collaboration.
You withhold compliments.
You worry that helping someone else means less for you.
But Allah says,
“Whatever you give in charity, He will replace it. And He is the Best of Providers.”
(Surah Saba’, 34:39)
This verse is not just about money.
Give energy, and you receive energy.
Give kindness, and you receive kindness.
Give effort, and you receive results.
The heart that gives freely is the one that lives abundantly.
Abundance Over Competition
There was a time when I used to be told that someone had copied what I did.
Sometimes it was a training concept.
Sometimes a full programme.
And sometimes, word for word, a piece of content I had written.
My staff or family would come to me expecting a reaction.
Anger. Frustration. Maybe even revenge.
But I rarely felt any of those things.
It wasn’t indifference. It was perspective.
You see, I’ve always believed that if what I do is for da’wah - for spreading goodness, knowledge, and hope - then even if someone else copied the idea and reached people I couldn’t, it’s still a win for the ummah. Because this would mean:
More people are being guided
More hearts are being touched
So why would I be angry about that?
But the deeper reason behind my peace was this:
I genuinely believe there is enough for EVERYONE.
Allah is Most Just.
He is Most Generous.
And if we truly believed in His Divine Attributes - not just memorised them - we would stop fearing the idea of competition.
What’s written for me will never miss me.
And what’s written for others were never meant for me.
An abundant mindset doesn’t panic when someone else enters the same space.
It doesn’t rush to protect credit or recognition.
It simply keeps creating, keeps giving, keeps trusting. And that’s what I kept doing. I kept creating more events/books/content, giving, and then trusting the outcome completely with Allah.
Do I still worry? Yes. I’m human after all.
But I don’t let my worries hold me back. I’ve learned that abundance is not about hoarding the blessings you are given. It’s about knowing with full faith that The Source whom we worship is limitless, and never runs out.
The Bigger Picture
If your dreams are tied to a larger purpose,
small issues like imitation won’t derail you.
You’ll realise that your mission is too big to be interrupted by envy.
People who copy can only replicate your surface, not your soul.
They can imitate your format, but not your faith.
They can borrow your words, but not your why.
When your intentions are sincere, and your work is aligned with Allah’s pleasure,
you become part of something that can’t be competed with.
Why? Because it’s not a competition anymore.
It’s contribution.
It’s barakah.
It’s abundance.
So if someone takes inspiration from you, smile.
It means your light was bright enough for them to notice.
And as long as you keep focusing on adding value,
Allah will keep increasing yours.
You Can’t Receive With Closed Hands
Many people pray for abundance while living with clenched fists.
They say, “Ya Allah, bless me with more,”
but they don’t make space for more.
Their schedule is full, their heart is heavy, their thoughts are crowded with worry.
They want new opportunities, yet they’re still attached to old fears.
How can you receive when your hands are closed?
How can you be guided toward expansion when your thoughts keep replaying limitation?
Allah doesn’t withhold.
He simply waits until you’re ready to hold more without it breaking you.
That’s why changing your mindset is part of divine preparation.
Before you get more, you have to think more abundantly.
When you think of abundance though, don’t just think of money.
Think of time, energy, love, ideas, peace, clarity, and purpose.
There are people who earn less than you, yet wake up every morning feeling rich.
There are others who have millions, yet wake up anxious and empty.
The Prophet ﷺ lived simply, yet he radiated abundance.
He gave freely, smiled often, and trusted that Allah would always provide.
Once, when asked about true wealth, he said:
“True richness is not having many possessions, but being content within oneself.”
(Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
That is the essence of abundance; a heart that feels full even when the hands are not.
The Stories You Tell Yourself
Your mindset is very much shaped by the stories you keep repeating to yourself.
Somewhere along the way, someone told you that you were not capable, not worthy, not ready.
And without realising, you made that your truth.
Now every time you try to rise up in life, that voice whispers,
“Who do you think you are?”
Every time you dream bigger, it says,
“You’re being unrealistic - manage your expectations.”
But here’s what you must understand:
That voice is not God.
It’s your fear, dressed up as reason.
The moment you stop believing those stories, you make room for abundance to flow in. Because abundance doesn’t come to those who think they’re ready.
It comes to those who act as if they are worthy, not by entitlement, but by an unshakeable belief that Allah is Kind, Allah is Generous, and He loves to give.
Abundance requires both faith and flow.
Faith, to believe that Allah’s provisions are infinite.
Flow, to take consistent action without obsession or fear.
Too much faith without flow leads to passivity.
Too much flow without faith leads to exhaustion and burnout.
The balance is in the middle, when you work hard as though everything depends on you, and you trust as though everything depends on Him.
When your mindset aligns with this balance, you stop forcing outcomes and start attracting them. You stop trying to control and start cooperating with divine timing.
That’s when abundance begins to show up in quiet, unexpected ways.
A new connection. A sudden opportunity. A heart finally at peace.
The Signs of a Scarcity Mindset
If you want to know whether you’re living from scarcity or abundance, notice your reactions:
When someone else succeeds, do you feel inspired or envious?
When you spend money for loved ones, do you feel grateful or fearful?
When you think of the future, do you feel excited or anxious?
Scarcity says, “There’s not enough - stop giving.”
Abundance says, “Allah’s mercy is vast.”
Scarcity says, “I’ll give when I have more.”
Abundance says, “I’ll give because I trust that when I give selflessly, the barakah will come back perpetually.”
One closes your heart.
The other opens it wide.
Shifting Into Abundance
If you want to start living more abundantly and less fearfully, consider these three mindset shifts that worked for me:
Move from Fear to Faith.
Every time you fear losing something, remember the Giver of all things.
Say “Allahumma inni as’aluka rizqan tayyiban wa ‘ilman nafi’an wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan” — “O Allah, I ask You for pure sustenance, beneficial knowledge, and accepted deeds.”
This prayer reprograms your heart to seek abundance with purpose, not greed.Move from Comparison to Contribution.
Stop measuring what you have against others. Lessen the consumption of social media content.
Instead, measure what you have by how much good you can do with it.
The secret of abundance is that it multiplies when shared.Move from Control to Trust.
Stop micromanaging life.
Let go of timelines and expectations.
Abundance grows in open hands, not clenched ones.In open hearts, not closed ones.
Living Abundantly in a World of Fear
We live in a time when fear is normalised.
People post their highlights and hide their worries.
Everyone looks abundant on the outside but bankrupt on the inside.
That’s why your mindset matters more than ever.
Because the real battle is not in your wallet or your work.
It’s in your heart.
When you start believing that Allah is Al-Ghaniyy; The Self-Sufficient, The Rich, The Source of All Abundance, you stop chasing and start aligning.
You stop questioning “Why am I not getting more?”
And start asking “How can I be more?”
That’s when things begin to shift.
Not because the world changed,
but because your perception did.
The Truth About Abundance
Abundance doesn’t come from effort alone.
It comes from alignment.
Alignment between your thoughts, your faith, and your actions.
It’s when you wake up with gratitude before your desires are fulfilled.
It’s when you give even when it feels uncomfortable.
It’s when you believe that your rizq is already written, and that Allah is never late in delivering it.
Abundance is not found in the numbers in your account.
It’s found in the state of your heart.
So today, check your mindset.
Ask yourself,
“Do I live like someone who trusts in the Giver,
or like someone who fears the gift will run out?”
You are meant to live abundantly.
But first, you have to think abundantly.
Think bigger,
